JAKARTA (deTik, Republika): Rizman A Nugraha, an Indonesian traveler, was selected by AXE Space Academy (ASA) to fly to outerspace.
Rizman was one of three Indonesians from 100 people who competed to grab 24 tickets to go to outer space. He will conduct aerospacial trainings at AASA Global Space Camp.“We are very proud to announce the first Indonesian astronaut candidates who will be dispatched by AXE into space. Rizman A Nugraha has successfully passed the rigorous selection, beat more than 82,000 applicants from Indonesia and become the big three that follow the selection in the Global Aasa SpaceCamp,” said Brand Manager of AXE Unilever Indonesia, William Wijanarko, in a release to the detikTravel, Wednesday (18/12/2013).
The winners were announced by Buzz Aldrin, an American legendary of outerspace, at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, US. Rizman finally won the sole opportunity from the AXE to go outerspace.“During the course of the training mission, Rizman has successfully piloted the USA Air Combat plane, undergo training like an astronaut in Astronaut Assault Course and proved that he can overcome the force of the explosion in this type of exercise G-Force Mission at the Kennedy Space Center,” added William.
In the middle of 1980s, NASA selected Indonesian engineer Ir Taufik Akbar of the Bandung Institute of Technolgy and microbiologist Dr Pratiwi Sudharmono of the University of Indonesia as astronauts.They had conducted several training missions. But, they failed to go outerspace after NASA cancelled their outerspace mission following the explosion of the ‘Challenger’ shuttleship in February 1986.
