Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim names Indonesia as new hope of Islamic revival

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID — Former deputy of Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Indonesia had emerged as the new hope for Islamic revival in the world. He said that the democratic process in the country improved from time to time.

“Indonesia is more secure compared to other Muslim majority countries. The constitution guarantees the freedom of speech to every citizen, including at House of Representative (DPR), Regional Representative (DPD) and People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR),” Ibrahim said, while delivering a public lecture at Jakarta recently as reported by Ahmad Islamy Jamil.

The neighboring country’s opposition leader also praised the ongoing efforts in Indonesia to combat corruption. He surprised that the Constitutional Court’s chief was arrested due to corruption case. For him, it only was only happened in Indonesia.

However, it showed that state’s institution, especially Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) carried out its function properly. It became Indonesia’s added value compared to other Islamic countries, including Malaysia. He admitted that Indonesia became the future hope of Islamic world like Turkey.
