MABIMS meet ends with pledge against extremism, radicalism, terrorism

RELIGIOUS ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS) urged all Muslims not to support the Islamic State (IS) movement in any shape or form.

The call to Muslims all over the world was part of MABIMS Joint Statement delivered at the end of the 16th Informal Meeting yesterday. The forum also pledged to disassociate the use of the terminology ‘Jihad’ from extremism, radicalism and terrorism as well as reject extremism, radicalism and terrorism in all forms completely.

“They also called to the younger generation to disassociate themselves from any forms of extremism, radicalism and terrorism and condemn all forms of crimes made in the name of Islam,” read a statement from the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The statement added the entire MABIMS delegation were deeply concerned on the social and political situations in Islamic states for example Syria, Yemen and Palestine to which they prayed for the ongoing conflict to end so that the can return back to their peaceful lives as before.

Brunei was represented at the meeting in Bali, Indonesia, by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abd Rahman.

This year’s meeting also saw the launching of a MABIMS 25 years to commemorate its 25 year anniversary. MoRA in a statement announced that the 40th Senior Officers Meeting (S0M) in 2015 will be held in Brunei while the 41st SOM and 17th MABIMS meeting in 2016 will be held in Malaysia.
